Step Three: Plant the Correct Seeds
I learned that if I wanted to reap Sauerkraut I would need to plant cabbage seeds.
Education Applications:
It is important that teachers use the correct seeds when growing students. This concept is summed up in a poem by Dorothy Law Nolte,

CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE
Dorothy Law Nolte
If a child lives with criticism,
he learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
he learns to fight.
If a child lives with fear,
he learns to be apprehensive.
If a child lives with pity,
he learns to feel sorry for himself.
If a child lives with ridicule,
he learns to be shy.
If a child lives with jealousy,
he learns what envy is.
If a child lives with shame,
he learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with encouragement,
he learns to be confident.
If a child lives with tolerance,
he learns to be patient.
If a child lives with praise,
he learns to be appreciative.
If a child lives with acceptance,
he learns to love.
If a child lives with approval,
he learns to like himself.
If a child lives with recognition,
he learns that it is good to have a goal.
If a child lives with sharing,
he learns about generosity.
If a child lives with honesty and fairness,
he learns what truth and justice are.
If a child lives with security,
he learns to have faith in himself and in those about him.
If a child lives with friendliness,
he learns that the world is a nice place in which to live.
If you live with serenity,
your child will live with peace of mind.
With what is your child living?

What seeds are you planting and nourishing in your classroom? Often our actions, words and attitude plant more seeds than the lessons, objectives, outcomes, or testing combined.
Faith Application:
In today’s world the term “Christian” has become synonymous with “Hypocrite,” or “Bigot,” or any one of many other derogatory terms. This is often the result of the non-Christian having a bad experience with a Christian. Attitudes against Christians can also be formed by media portrayals of radical fringe Christian movements condemning others for their sin.
There are a variety of seeds available for the Christian to use when interacting with the world.

There are a variety of seeds available for the Christian to use when interacting with the world.
- An act of kindness, accompanied by a word of Grace, goes a long way to overcome the negative stereotype of Christians.
- Honest words of hope and empathy offered to hurting people show Christ to those who do not know Him.
- Living a lifestyle that matches words and deeds make a witness to people looking for something solid.
- Providing a listening, non-judgmental ear can provide opportunities for Gospel conversations.
- An invitation to attend a faith-based event with a neighbor has the potential to open doors to a faith conversation.
- Sharing an appropriate Bible story can show that all of the problems and challenges faced by today’s people have been faced before. Almost every situation that one can find in today’s world can be found reflected in the pages of Holy Scripture. Sharing these stories is one way to start and continue a faith discussion.
- Prayer is a way that Christians can reach pout to those around them. Asking someone, “What can I pray for you,” is a powerful statement.
